“I am so sorry sir, I am still on my way…”
“Sorry sir, I went into wrong route, will be late to interview…”
“Sorry Sorry, can I postpone the interview, I don’t think I can make it lah Sir…”
Punctuality is part of the interview. There’s no adequate explanation for the lateness other than bad preparation. A lack of punctuality at the interview is indicative of poor timekeeping generally. If I were more than half an hour late for an interview, I wouldn’t be surprised if I lost the interview slot.
Thus, always allows for plenty of time to adjust to unknown conditions and arrive at least 30 minutes early to the interview. Of course, sometimes unforeseen circumstances can’t be avoided, if there’s a good reason and the interviewee calls ahead to inform that they’re running late, this could be an exception, transport breakdown etc.
So, remember, punctuality for your interview is critical to show that you are a responsible and well-organized person, and you do not often get a second chance at a first impression.
Punctuality is not about being on time, it’s basically about respecting your own commitments.
