Why Candidates Are Ghosting You (It’s Not Personal, It’s the Economy)

A client lost a great candidate last week.

They waited eight days to get back to her after the final interview.

She took another job within 72 hours. Worse pay. Longer commute. But that company responded right away.

Here is what is happening.

Candidates are nervous right now.

When people feel financially tight, they do not wait around. They take the first decent offer that feels real.

I talked to a job seeker last week. She said: “I cannot afford to wait two weeks for an answer. I need to know now.”

What we changed at our agency.

Three small things. Big results.

1. Every candidate gets a response within 48 hours. Even if the response is just “still waiting, will update you Friday.”

2. We use WhatsApp. Email is too slow for this market.

3. We tell the truth when we are slow. Candidates appreciate honesty more than they appreciate fake promises.

Our ghosting rate dropped by more than half.

What you can do.

If you are an employer: ask your agency about their response time. If they hesitate, that is a red flag.

If you are a candidate: do not wait around for companies that forget about you. There are better agencies.
